Dan Everhart, who taught English at SCC for ten years and passed away in a traffic accident in December, will be remembered with a memorial scholarship in his name.
Everhart is remembered by his colleagues as someone who exuded positive thinking in all he said and did.
“Love and kindness take deliberate action,” Ever-hart once observed. “In this world, the optimist and dreamer must be of sturdy stock, unflinching in the light of a dark world, unwavering in its belief in the better part of humanity.”
He is also fondly remembered by his students as someone who daily demonstrated compassion and a passion for improving the lives of others.
The memorial scholarship for Dan Everhart will be for $900, and there will be one recipient per year.
The applicants must have successfully completed (with a “C” or higher) at least one Foundations (ENGL999-level or lower) level or Pre-Foundations (credit-bearing ESL) level English course within one year prior to applying for the scholarship.
Additionally, applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and be a full time-student.
This scholarship is open to all campuses and SCC hopes to have it available for the Summer 2013 quarter.
