For more than 16 years, Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant, located just south of 70th and O streets, has put out some of the best Mexican cuisine Lincoln has to offer.
An inviting atmosphere, a mouthwatering menu and authentic music are three components that make you feel at home in this wonderful family-owned establishment.
From the moment you walk into Mazatlan, you are treated like family or a close friend at the very least. That is because you are immediately greeted with a warm welcome from the host when he or she calls you their “amigo.”
From that point on, the service is spectacular. Before you can even get settled in, you find yourself swimming in all of the chips and salsa varieties you can eat, but be careful; some of it can be extremely hot even for you fire breathers out there.
“One of the things that keep people coming back is our free chips and salsa,” said restaurant manager Luis Sarazua. “They come in even if they aren’t hungry to eat our chips.”
When you receive the menu you may be alarmed by its size at first; however, after further review you will be pleased to see the variety that awaits your pallet. From eggs, or huevos, to seafood and any combination in between, there is no problem finding something that will please your appetite.
There are even vegetarian dishes offered for the non-meat eaters to enjoy. These include tacos, enchiladas and beans with rice.
One of the tastiest and filling dishes on the menu would have to be the Deluxe Manadero Burrito. This is a massive mountain of ground beef, rice and beans rolled in a huge tortilla and topped with cheese, sour cream, guacamole and diced tomatoes.
But the most popular dish, Sarazua said, is “any type of Fajita. If you order a Fajita here, you are going to be very pleased.”
To wash all of this down, there are at least 10 margarita varieties. Those not of age can get a nonalcoholic version as well as all types of soda, tea and coffee.
The best part about Mazatlan, however, is the authentic Mexican music that almost subconsciously whispers in the background.
Of course, if you have been there, you already know all of this. However, if you have not visited Mazatlan, you are missing a wonderful experience.
