On Tuesday, July 23, the Beatrice campus was struck by lightning between the old ball field and Truman Center. Although there was no harmful damage, except for the dirt, there are some things students should know over this stormy season.
According to National Lightning Safety Institute, Louisville, Colo., here are some lightning safety tips:
1. If you are outside, no place is the safest. The best things that can be done is to avoid water, high ground, metal objects, trees, etc.. The best thing to keep you out of harms way is to crouch, not lay, down to the ground, putting hands over your ears and feet together, and avoid being near people.
2 If you are Indoors, there are a few things you need to do to stay safe. Avoid cords, electrical items, water, and doors and windows. Turn off any electrical items and remember to stay indoors.
