The Lady Storm went to 2-0 in the SCC Classic held Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Truman Center.

On Friday, Southeast upended Neosho Community College, 58-41. Head Coach Vicki Wooton said her team started slow, but was able to pull away in the second half thanks to great defense.

Southeast led 22-19 in first half, but continued to overwhelm Neosho in the second half with stifling defense. Dionne Martin was a big reason for the team’s success.

Martin notched a double/double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The sophomore also blocked three shots, and had three steals to bolster the defense.

Sophmore Brianna Grant chipped in 15 points, and Kenae Merrit came off the bench to add 11.

On Saturday SCC defeated a gritty Little Priest Tribal College team 72-50. Little Priest has just five players available, but nearly matched the Lady Storm in the second half 34-31.

Amber Joe came off the bench to lead the team with 13 points, while Erin Saathoff added 11. Hannah Roberts and Shanae Collins controlled the boards, grabbing seven rebounds each.

Little Priest was led by Kathleen Webster, who poured in 21 points.

In other women’s action in the SCC Classic, Frank Phillips beat Little Priest 83-42 on Friday, and then defeated Neosho on Saturday, 77-63.
