Johnson County proved to be too powerful for the Lady Storm, as the second-ranked team in the nation overwhelmed Southeast Community College, 80-37, on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Truman Center.
SCC played JCCC tough for much of the first half, before the Lady Cavaliers went on a 16-0 run to take a 32-16 halftime lead.
Co-Head Coach Vicki Wooton said the Lady Storm lost focus and took some “bad shots” and had too many turnovers to end the half.
The coach said the team came out strong in the second half, but were unable to get any offense going. She added that the Lady Storm turned the ball over too many times and were not able to get enough rebounds.
JCCC’s defense held Southeast to 25 percent shooting and forced 23 turnovers for the game.
Dionne Martin led SCC with seven points and five blocks. Chelsea Savage had seven points while Cyneia Hunter snagged seven rebounds.
Sameia Kendall led the Lady Cavaliers with 12 points while Camille Gee and Juanita Robinson each chipped in 11 points.
The loss dropped the Lady Storm record to 11-8 on the season.
