LINCOLN – The Laboratory Science Technology program has been cancelled at Southeast Community College.
As of the fall quarter 2011, the no new students are being accepted into the program.
The college no longer offers this as a major because of low enrollment.
What exactly does this mean for students who were enrolled in the program while it was shut down? The program is currently still running in order to finish the needs of students previously enrolled.
But since the required courses will only be offered one more time, failing a course would mean being dropped from the program.
Lab Science covered a fairly broad spectrum and offered students the chance to graduate with Associate of Applied Science Degree.
With this, students would have been able to find a job as a laboratory technician, where they would work under the supervision of a physician, scientist or technologist in a clinical setting.
Students who continued on and received their Bachelor Degree could be considered a qualified medical technologist.
