Revan: hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. Revan went from Jedi Knight to Darth Revan and back to Jedi Knight.
Now readers learn the tale of what happened after the two Knights of the Old Republic video games.
Drew Karpyshyn, Star Wars writer and Old Republic creator, writes another great novel with action, a good story line, and good characters.
However, something was missing from this novel even though everything else was right on point.
Those who have never played the video games “The Knights of the Old Republic” and its sequel only know a brief bit about Revan and his story.
That is assuming readers know his story at all. The problem is the lack of a back story to help readers understand how the story got to this point.
“Revan” is a good read that I thoroughly enjoyed, but the latest Old Republic novel is not solely based on the famous light saber wielder.
It also focused a great deal on Dark Lord Scourge until the two are brought together over halfway through the novel.
Lord Scourge’s story focuses on his rise to power while Revan leaves his family behind to follow the dark dream he has been having about a dark and stormy planet.
So much of his memory had been lost after his turn to the dark side and return to the Jedi Order that he finds himself wanting to learn more about those lost memories.
Through his travels, he meets up with an exiled Jedi that he had been friends with in the past; however, the story only spends a short time focusing on this character.
He also aids in finding an artifact to bring peace to the Mandalorians who are in constant search for the item.
The Emperor is another character that is also covered very little. The story about him is brief but interesting and leaves everyone wondering what he is going to do next.
Drew Karpyshyn did a good job of writing another great tale and also describing the life of another hero with difficult trials that he has had to face.
Now fans will just have to wait to see what he plans to do next in the world of Star Wars.
