“Bossypants” by Tina Fey is a comedic, yet touching look into her life from her days as a girl in Pennsylvania to her life now with her family and career in New York City.
From the introduction all the way through to the final page, Fey conveys her wit, smarts and humor.
In this book, she talks about working her way up from performing with a small acting troupe to becoming a writer on “Saturday Night Live,” writing her own hit movies and creating and starring in her own award-winning show on NBC, “30 Rock.”
“Bossypants” is not only Fey’s autobiography; it is also a look into the comedic workplace and a look at our society.
She talks about the difference and evolution of the male and female comedian and shares her opinion about Photoshopped pictures, breast feeding, becoming a mom and women’s body image.
“If you retain nothing else, always remember the most important rule of beauty, which is: who cares?” Fey writes.
Fey also takes some time to respond to some “fan” mail: “To say I’m an overrated troll, when you have never even seen me guard a bridge, is patently unfair,” she responds.
This book is a must read, especially for anyone who enjoys comedy.
Readers get a backstage pass to learning about the birth of “30 Rock” and to the legendary “Saturday Night Live.”
We also get to see how her famous portrayal of Sarah Palin came about and the reactions from fans and politicians.
The book also provides an interesting look into comedy from a woman’s perspective in a career that is usually dominated by men.
This book for just an all-around fun read. It is a refreshing change of pace to read a book that puts a smile on your face and can even make you laugh.
