LINCOLN – Southeast Community College includes four campuses: one in Beatrice, one in Milford, and two in Lincoln. Seemingly, it is not quite enough.
The fourth campus, Energy Square, is undergoing some changes.
The first floor was originally purchased from NMPP Energy in 1995. At the time, only 500 students were enrolled. Now each quarter 1,500 students pass through the doors.
The purchase was not just for SCC, though, NMPP is also growing, and they have moved their headquarters to a location on 84th Street in Lincoln.
Southeast also plans to grow; with an entire second floor of space, there will now be more availability for a larger selection of course offerings.
Energy Square is only a few blocks from University Nebraska-Lincoln and other downtown life.
Students seem extremely excited about the changes.
Geoff Popken comments, “I started at UNL, and after transferring, it is nice to be so close to my friends. We can meet up for lunch or coffee anytime.”
As far as the changes go, Popken said, “I am really looking forward to it. It will feel more like school without offices above us.
I can’t wait to see what I will be able to take downtown; I have stayed away from certain classes because I don’t want to make the drive to the main campus.”
