BEATRICE – The level I students of the LPNAN organization on the Beatrice campus are hosting a fundraiser to help them get to a convention in October at the University of Kearney.
The level I students have been around the campus, selling to their friends and family. But what are they selling?
The fundraiser includes candles, candle chunks, room fresheners and caramels. They have all different kinds of smells.
The nursing students have been selling Star Light Candles and Gifts for two years now. They are hoping that this year will bring great results like last year did.
They got this idea from a local family in Beatrice. The family’s daughter came down with an illness, and the family didn’t have the money for the hospital appointments. So they thought of making their own candles to raise money.
Nursing instructor Karen Stevens said that the girl is now in high school and believes she is doing fine. The students also began selling the candles to support the family in need. She said it can be a nice thing to do for someone in the community.
Stevens also said the nursing students have learned that selling candles brings a lot more money than the candy bars they used to sell. The local family gives the Beatrice campus half of the profit that the students sale.
The nursing program uses the money to give away nursing scholarships, and get to go on trips to conventions in Kearney. There, they will participate in workshops and work with some new networks.
Those who buy Star Light Candles And Gifts won’t just only help the level I students of the LPNAN organization on campus, but also a local family in need.
