Students in the American Welding Society are keeping busy this quarter.
Each month students take tours of various companies relating to the field of welding.
“Last month was a tour of the power plant in Hallam Nebraska,” said Brent A. Wohl, an instructor in the Welding Technologies Program at SCC. “The month prior we toured Tuttle Inc., a custom fabrication company in Friend, Nebraska.”
This month, AWS will be awarding scholarships to students in the welding program.
“Coming up this month is education night,” Wohl said. “We will have a dinner meeting and give away our
four section scholarships to members that are enrolled either in the Lincoln campus or Milford campus welding programs.”
The Welding Program at SCC is an Accredited Test Facility through the American Welding Society, and students who achieve an AAS degree will be qualified/certified to a national code through this facility upon graduation.
According to www.aws.org the AWS is a non-profit organization founded in 1919.
“The mission of the American Welding Society is to advance the science, technology and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes, including brazing, soldering and thermal spraying.
