Sci-Fi at the Proms made a geektastic splash for geeks around Lincoln.

This past Monday, March 17, the Lincoln Community Concert Band performed the musical stylings of science fiction television shows and movies.

There was music from “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” “Doctor Who,” “Lord of the Rings” and a movie medley with songs “Mission Impossible Theme,” “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic,” “Zorro’s Theme” and “Raider’s March.”

Accompanying the music, many people were cosplaying their favorite characters from the sci-fi movies and shows.

From the Star Wars Universe, the characters being cosplayed were Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Storm Trooper, Royal/Palace Guard and another Jedi.

From the Doctor Who Universe, there were the 10th and 11th Doctors, Captain Jack Harkness, Amy Pond, the Tardis, a Cyberman, the Master and a Dalek.

Indiana Jones, a Hobbit and a few Blue Shirt Trekkies also joined the cast.

As each theme song was played, the performers would act a little skit, including a Trekkie trying to “beam up” and failing, as well as an epic lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. Spoiler Alert: Vader won!

The performers were very in character. At one point, I was almost seen as a traitor to the force by Darth Vader. It was great!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The combination of cosplay and music will always make any night, or finals week, the best.
