LINCOLN- After moving to Lincoln in 2005, I decided to explore the city. One of the very first restaurants I visited was The Parthenon.
The Parthenon is a Greek restaurant located at 5500 South 56th Street #100.
The Kazas Family, who opened the restaurant eight years ago, owns it.
Not only does The Parthenon offer a traditional Greek atmosphere, it also offers a family friendly environment if you don’t mind a little music and dancing late into the night.
I dined at The Parthenon last week with my family. I went with the filafil sandwich ($6.74) for my evening meal. It was made with ground chickpeas and seasonings rolled into balls, fried in virgin olive oil, served on pita with lettuce, onion, tomatoes and feta cheese, topped with Greek dressing and the tzatziki sauce on the side.
I got the sandwich minus the onions; they don’t go well with it.
The best part of the sandwich was the ground chickpea balls with seasoning.
It was such a filling sandwich yet light in taste.
All sandwiches were served with a Greek potato, Greek fries, rice pilaf, the vegetable of the day or klitharaki.
The Greek potato, which was skinless and baked in lemon juice, olive oil and Greek seasonings, is recommended.
The menu was fully developed. One can find food for even the pickiest of eaters. From hearty meat to traditional lamb to seafood to vegetarian dishes and vegan entrees, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The kids’ menu was acceptable. Desserts and drinks add signature to the menu.
I don’t know how the food could possibly get any better. Grade: A+
The Parthenon’s atmosphere is vibrant. The dining area is full of tables and booth for small and large parties. There are events, such a live music and belly dancing, occasionally. It is a bit dim. There is also a taverna. Grade: A
We stopped by The Parthenon for a quick dinner on a Wednesday evening. We were seated immediately. Our drinks were brought out just as fast.
Once we ordered, our food did not take very long to be cooked to perfection and brought out. The servers were pleasant and quick to meet the desires of the customers. Almost always, customers get a visit from one of the owners themselves. Grade: A
If you are looking for a tasty, new restaurant with Greek cuisine, I highly recommended The Parthenon, which is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
