BEATRICE—The Southeast Community College Lady Storm Softball team began the spring season with a slow start.
On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Storm softball team traveled to Salina, Kan., to face the Brown Mackie Lions for the season opener.
Sophomore Marley Christian of Lincoln started the first game pitching, and freshman Jalyn Meyer, also of Lincoln, started the second game for the Storm.
SCC fell short both games to the Lions, losing the first 5-13 and the second 6-19.
The next weekend Southeast traveled to Concordia, Kan., to participate in Cloud County Community College’s tournament.
On Saturday, March 3, the Storm faced Brown Mackie again, and fell short 0-4.
SCC then suffered another loss of 6-13 to Cloud County.
Southeast’s next game was against Highland Community College. SCC again fell short 0-6.
On Sunday, March 4, SCC returned to face North Platte. SCC pulled off their first victory of the season, defeating North Platte 11-5.
They then suffered another loss of 6-9 to Barton Community College.
On Tuesday, March 6, SCC hosted their first home game of the season versus Central Community College.
The Storm lost the first game 3-5 and the second game 2-6.
Freshman Roni Putnam of Gothenburg said, “As a team, I think for us to be able to win more games, we need to work to improve our offense and our communication on defense.”
