The Southeast Community College Storm basketball team couldn’t quite get over the “hump” as they fell to Division I Northeast Community College 86-80 Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Truman Center.
Head Coach Joel Wooton was pleased with the effort and intensity that his team played with, but it wasn’t enough to come out with a win.
“Northeast just shot the ball better than we did,” Wooton said. “We out rebounded them, but we had a hard time finishing around the rim.”
The coach was upbeat following the loss.
“We just keep getting better and better,” Wooton explained. “They beat us by almost 30 at their place…and we had a chance to win this game at the end, but we took some bad shots, and they hit their free throws.”
Delquan Thomas led all scorers with 30 points, while pulling down 11 rebounds. Tyrell Corlew added 20.
Northeast was led by Iowa State recruit KJ Bluford, who had 25 points, followed by Sean Scott with 17 and Kyle Kilgore with 16.
SCC falls to 16-9 on the season.
The Storm will take on Central Community College for homecoming this Saturday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m.
