The SCC Storm men’s basketball team overcame adversity to split a two-day, two-game, road trip through western Nebraska.
The Storm were overwhelmed by North Platte Community College 82-52 Friday, Feb. 15, at North Platte.
The game was called with 1:55 left on the clock after Trey Porter suffered an injury on a dunk attempt. According to North Platte media reports, Porter went into a seizure on the bench and was taken to an area hospital.
Head Coach Joel Wooton said that the injury was “not really a seizure but more like muscle spasms.”
Porter continues to be evaluated by medical personnel.
SCC was led by Jerred Gamble with nine points, while Delquan Thomas pulled down 12 rebounds.
NPCC was paced by Ethan Montalvo and Jake Maslo, who each had 15 points.
The Storm overcame an 18 point second half deficit to upend McCook Community College 87-85 Saturday, Feb. 16, in McCook.
Wooton said it was a “huge win.”
“(We) just started to do the things we need to do to play well,” Wooton explained. “We were sharing the ball, talking to each other on defense, and boxing out.”
“We seem to play better with adversity,” Wooton added.
Delquan Thomas led the Storm with 24 points, while Mike Johnson poured in 17. Tyrell Corlew added 15, including 6-9 from the field.
SCC hosts Southwestern Community College, Saturday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m.
