Southeast golfers took home the Region IX championship held Tuesday, April 30, and Wednesday, May 1, at the Northeast 18 in Sterling, Colo.
The Storm beat out Central Community College, Miles Community College and Northeast Community College to take home the title.
Head Coach Bill Campbell said the two day total of 570 was a school record.
“We slugged it out in less than perfect conditions, “Campbell added.
The teams played a total of 36 holes, but the last 18 were cancelled to due inclement weather.
Liam Chambers edged out teammate Calvin Freeman for individual honors, shooting a final round of 63.
Zach Taylor and Mike Downey finished 3rd and 4th, shooting two day totals of 144, and 148 respectively
Chambers hails from Scotland, where the sport of golf was believed to have originated from.
“(Liam) has had a lot of time to practice…since the 1500’s,” joked Campbell.
The coach said this season has been particularly gratifying.
“I like my team…this is a special group,” Campbell stated.
“I felt we maximized our potential this year, considering the weather,” Campbell explained. “I would have a list of things for the players to work on, (and) then it would rain for four days.”
The next stop for the surging Storm is the NJCAA nationals held May 21-24, 2013, at Goose Pond Colony Golf Club in Scottsboro, Ala.
