The Southeast Community College Golf team competed in the Midland College Spring Invitational held Monday, April 15, at the Fremont Country Club, and Tuesday, April 16, at The Pines in Valley, NE.
The Storm shot a team total of 51 over par 623 to finish second to Iowa Western.
Iowa Western fired a 28 over par 600 to win the invite.
Head Coach Bill Campbell said he was proud of the team despite the second place finish.
“I think we got beat by a pretty good team,” Campbell said. “Iowa Western is a very fine team this year.”
“I like my team a lot,” Campbell continued. “It was be nice if we could catch a break on the weather and get out and get some range time in … but for no more than we practice, I think we are doing pretty good.”
Returning All American Calvin Freeman led SCC with a fourth place finish, notching a two-day total nine-over-par 152.
Campbell said Freeman showed “character” at the invite.
“The first day was not very good for Calvin,“ Campbell explained. “But (he) came back and pared the pines the next day.”
Southeast (623) finished ahead of Midland (625), followed by Hastings College (643), Briar Cliff ( 653), Northeast CC (692), Central CC (696), Midland JV (707), and Briar Cliff JV (755).
