BEATRICE – The SCC Men’s Basketball team came home with a win over Union College on Tuesday, Nov. 29. that raised the team’s record to 9-1 on the season.
“SCC dominated the boards,” said Head Coach Joel Wooton, “while Union shot lights out in the first half.”
The Storm went into half time with a tied score of 50-50. SCC picked up their defense in the second half to finish the game 105-82 over Union.
Venton Wilder, a sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., led the Storm with 37 points.
Sophomore Domonique Smith of Louisville, Ky., finished the game with a double-double. Smith gave SCC 15 points and 14 rebounds after injuring his shoulder in the first half.
“The bench played a bigger part tonight,” said Wooton, “and gave us a lift.”
SCC held Union to a 73-41 rebounding edge, but struggled at the free-throw line.
“We played like we had a long lay-off, but still won the game,” added Wooton.
SCC is hosting the Holiday Classic Tournament Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3. On Friday, the Storm will face North Central at 8 p.m. Their next game will be Saturday at 8 p.m. against Doane JV.
