The SCC baseball team polished off six games in a row to improve their record to 16-15 on the season.
Co-Head Coach Dion Parks said that the players are getting better and healthy at the “right time.”
The Storm beat Elgin Community College 18-7 on March 27 and Prairie State College 7-1 on March 28 to cap off a nine-game road swing through Florida.
Southeast returned home to sweep Hesston Community College 10-5 and 13-4 at Christenson Field, on Saturday, April 6.
“We hit the ball well, (and) drove the ball around the yard,” Parks said.
Creighton Wilke, Mitchell Scheuler and Trevor Vermeer powered Southeast’s offense.
Wilke drove in a total of six runs in the series, while Scheuler and Vermeer each added a home run.
Nick Farleigh (6-2) and Drayton Riekenberg (1-1) picked up wins for the Storm.
Parks said Farleigh raises the level of the team when he is on the mound.
“Nick is the type of (pitcher) that gives you a chance to win every time out,” Parks exclaimed.
The Storm capped off the winning streak taking two games from York JV, 3-2 and 7-5, at home on Sunday, April 7.
“It was a grind,” Parks said. “I think we fought ourselves at bit.”
The Storm rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the sixth to pick up a 3-2 win in the first game, and the team withstood a two-run rally by York in seventh inning to hold on for the 7-5 win to cap off the doubleheader.
“I’m just glad we found a way to get the (series) win under our belt,” Parks concluded.
Pitchers James McCarthy (1-3) and Cody Valdez (3-3) picked up the wins for SCC.
