LINCOLN – Smarthinking, a tutoring service available to students is receiving about 100 submitted essays a week for review.
Students can submit essays, questions and even live chat with an e-structor on various school-related subjects on his or her own computer. A couple subjects include, but are not limited to, mathematics, science and English.
After the student submits his or her essay in the preferred RF format, a tutor will read it and submit a response providing constructive criticism.
All students are automatically enrolled in Smarthinking when they register for classes.
The service is available 24 hours a day online, and many tutors and instructors are awaiting submissions.
If students want to interact with a tutor in person, they can visit the Multi-Academic Center at the back of the LRC at the Lincoln campus.
There, students can find the Math Center for math tutoring, the Writing Center for English tutoring and general tutors for other areas of study.
The tutoring hours are 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for math and English, and on Fridays, the hours are a little different.
On Fridays, math tutoring is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Writing Center, for English, is available from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
At Energy Square the hours are limited and vary, so students should contact the MAC at extension 2627 for scheduling information.
Students should also contact the MAC for any questions related to tutoring or Smarthinking.
One of the reasons for Smarthinking is to help out students taking online courses who do not meet with an instructor for class and students who don’t have a lot of free time.
Tracy stated, “We have students who might be working or raising children who might not have any time to see a tutor … with Smarthinking, they can submit an essay right before they go to bed.”
