Led by Beatrice High School product Caleb Harms’ even-par 72, Southeast Community College’s golf team was tied for first place after the first day of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.
Harms entered Wednesday’s second day tied for fifth individually and just three shots off the lead.
All five SCC golfers played well during Tuesday’s first round. Alex Overfelt of Papillion shot a 1-over-par 73 and was tied for eighth place; Mike Downey of Gloucester, United Kingdom, shot a 74, tying him for 17th place; Calvin Freeman from Table Rock shot 75, tying him for 26th place; and James Willis of Sedgley, England, shot 76 and was tied for 38th place.
The Storm’s 294 (using the top four scores) tied it for first place with four other schools.
The four-day tournament concludes Friday.
