Southeast Community College’s golf team slipped a few more strokes behind the team leader in Round 3 of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.
However, SCC is just two strokes out of second place entering Friday’s final round.
The Storm shot 309 on Thursday after posting a 294 and 297 in Rounds 1 and 2. SCC finds itself at an even 900 heading into Friday’s final round, 24 shots behind first-place South Mountain Community College of Arizona. Tyler Junior College of Texas is second (898), while John A. Logan of Illinois is third (899).
SCC’s Calvin Freeman, a freshman from Table Rock, posted the low round for the team on Thursday with a 2-over-par 74. He entered Friday tied for fifth place overall. Caleb Harms, a sophomore from Beatrice, was just a stroke back after posting a 76 on Thursday. Harms is tied for ninth heading into the final round.
SCC’s James Willis, a sophomore from Sedgley, England, struggled to an 81 on Thursday, putting him in a tie for 27th place entering Friday’s play. Mike Downey, a freshman from Gloucester, United Kingdom, shot 78 Thursday and was tied for 36th place, his same score and position from Wednesday. Alex Overfelt, a sophomore from Papillion, struggled to an 82 on Thursday and fell into a tie for 71st.
