The law of averages finally caught up with the Southeast Community College women’s basketball team.
After struggling for much of the season shooting from beyond the arc, the Lady Storm unleashed barrage of three pointers to overwhelm Central Community College 94-58 Saturday, Feb. 9, on Homecoming.
“We haven’t hit very many threes the whole second half of the season, so it was nice to finally hit some in a big game like this,” Head Coach Vicki Wooton said.
SCC shot a blistering 60 percent from three on 14-23 shooting.
The Lady Storm outscored CCC 53-28 after halftime, and pressured the Lady Raiders into 26 percent shooting for the game.
Wooton said the team played hard from start to finish.
“We told them going into the game we had to play like we were down 10 points with 5 minutes left, and that’s what we needed the entire game,” Wooton said.
SCC had to overcome some adversity that afflicted three players who started the game.
“We had Mesha (Phillips) and Amanda (Fluker) in foul trouble early on…and then Hannah Tatum rolled her ankle, but we were able to get 37 points off the bench,” Wooton said.
Amanda Fluker led SCC with 21 points, including 4-5 from three. Callie Percival had a double/double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Destiny Whitehead and Mesha Phillips each scored 12 points, while hitting 4-6 and 4-5 from beyond the three point line respectively.
Caitlin Fehringer led CCC with 10 points.
SCC improves to 15-11 on the season, and will host Union College Monday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m.
