A furious second half rally by the Southeast Community College women’s basketball team was not enough as Brown Mackie escaped with a 79-78 win Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Truman Center.
The Lady Storm came back from a 21 point hole to take a 78-75 lead, but Brown Mackie battled back to take a 79-78 lead late in the game and hold on for the win.
“We had a chance to win with 16 seconds left,” Head Coach Vicki Wooton explained. “Mesha Phillips drove (to the basket) and got double teamed, and we didn’t get the call.”
The coach was happy with the way the team played despite the loss.
“This was a great game with an enormous amount of energy and effort,” Wooton said. “We had 24 assists and shared the ball well.”
The Lady Storm had four players in double figures.
Hannah Tatum notched a double/double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Olivia Moore added 17 points including 3-4 from beyond the arc. Destiny Whitehead and Mesha Phillips had 14 and 12 points respectivly.
The loss drops SCC’s record to 13-10 on the season.
The Lady Storm will be host Union College Thursday, Jan 31, at 6 p.m.
