The SCC Lady Storm softball team went 3-3 as they participated in a pair of tournaments at Columbus last weekend.
Southeast beat Northeastern Junior College, 12-4; Indian Hills Community College, 13-1; and fell to Colby Community College, 9-8, in the Jimmy John’s/Holiday Inn Express Tournament, April 5-6.
The Lady Storm edged North Platte Community College 9-8 and fell to Central Community College 10-0, and McCook Community College 10-9 in the Region 9 Conference Tournament, April 6-7.
Head Coach Tiffany Higgins said Southeast took “huge strides” during the tournaments.
“Assistant Coach Jamie Gay and I saw excellent growth out of the ladies this weekend, “ Higgins explained. “The ladies really bought into the strategy.”
Higgins said the team did a good job of executing the offense and continues to improve on defense.
“We had four ladies with five RBI’s or more and five ladies that hit .500 or better on the weekend,” Higgins added. “Defensively, we certainly still have some kinks to work out, and that showed this weekend, (but) the amount of growth the team has had defensively so far has been amazing.”
Shelby Baker and Amanda Rasmussen each earned All-Conference tournament honors.
Shelby continues to be a defensive key for us at short stop,” Higgins stated. “She was our leadoff hitter this weekend.
“Amanda was clutch for us this weekend catching all six games,” Higgins continued. “She was also an offensive leader batting middle of the lineup.”
Emily Dober also helped power the Southeast attack, hitting 6-12 with six RBIs on the weekend.
“Since having the ability to play this spring, Emily has added to our (offense),” Higgins said. “She is a power hitter and adds her offensive strength to our lineup.”
Southeast’s record is 5-9 on the season. The next game is Sunday, April 14, at Midland College versus the JV squad.
