The Southeast Community College women’s basketball team was no match for nationally-ranked Division 1 Northeast Community College as they fell 83-53 Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Truman Center.
“We had trouble shooting in first half and we dug ourselves a deep hole,” Head Coach Vicki Wooton said.
SCC shot 18 percent and had trailed 33-16 at the half.
Wooton said the Lady Storm played better offensively in the second half.
“We ran some set plays,” Wooton explained. “And that is not something we do a whole lot, but it worked for us at times.”
“The Storm continued to fight throughout the game…but Northeast is a good Division 1 team,” Wooton said.
The coach said that Callie Perciival “played an outstanding ballgame.”
Percival led the team with 17 points and five rebounds. Makayla Gardner just missed a double/double, scoring nine points and pulling down 10 rebounds
Northeast is currently ranked 15th nationally in Division I with a 23-2 record. The loss drops Division II SCC to 14-12 on the season.
The SCC women will host Central Community College for homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m.
