If you’re a fan of Elin Hilderbrand’s or if you are looking for a new beach read, consider picking up “Summerland,” recently released in paperback.
The story follows the aftermath of a car accident on a high school graduation night. The victims are a group of high school students, one of which is killed.
Penny Alistair was driving the car that went off the cliff on Nantucket, and she was killed instantly. Her twin brother, Hobby, was in the car with her and he is in a coma. Two others in the vehicle were uninjured and both of them are protecting a secret.
All of Penny’s passengers would swear she drove them over the cliff on purpose. Each of them believe they know why, but what is the truth?
While the town gossips are speculating, the kids’ parents are scrambling to protect what’s left of their children. Everyone has something they don’t want revealed and some of the best twists come not from what the teenagers were covering up but from what their parents have been hiding.
Hilderbrand is always great at bringing the ambiance of Nantucket to those of us who probably will never get there. Her characters are fleshed out extremely well, and she writes in a copa-cetic style that delivers each chapter from the perspective of one character at a time. It’s this technique that gives her readers a chance to bond with her characters.
Hilderbrand wants you to feel their anxiety, their agony and their triumph. When you turn the last page, you will have felt it all.
“Summerland” is avail-able now in paperback in most book stores. If you find yourself a fan of the author, Hilderbrand’s next novel, “Beautiful Day” is set for release on June 25.
