LINCOLN – Southeast Community College is home to a wide variety of students, many of whom have children and may be unaware there are four certified daycares that are close to the SCC Lincoln campus.
One option is the SCC Child Development Center located on the SCC campus. This program is ideal for students who don’t have time to make multiple stops on the way to school. The center is located in the D section of the college. The program is for students, staff and community members. It is staffed by SCC students and employees.
Rates vary depending on the age of the child. Infants, ages 6 weeks to 18 months, are $203/week. Toddlers, 18 to 36 months, are $195/week. Preschool, 3 years to kindergarten, is $168/week. Kindergarten and up are $158/ week. There is a 5% discount for children with siblings enrolled in the program.
The SCC Child Development Center is open from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m., and the center is open year round.
In the summer, May 28 – August 9, the center offers summer camps.
These camps include gymnastics, cooking, and first aid for children. Activities vary greatly, but include field trips to locations around town and a lot of fun physical activity.
To set up an appointment, call (402)437-2450 or stop by the Lincoln campus at 8800 O Street. Another option is The Children’s Circle Montessori, located at 121 Skyway Road, just down the street from SCC. This daycare focuses on the Montessori teaching method, which focuses on a positive learning environment where students learn from experimentation, decision making and guidance rather than instruction.
Andrea Kvasnicka is the owner. She started with the program in 1982 as a teacher.
In 1988 she became the director, and in 2009 she became the owner of the school. She is certified by the Montessori Institute of America, and the school is a recognized preschool by the Nebraska Department of Education. The school hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with extended hours available from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The monthly rates, five days a week, are $610 for the Primary 1 group, and $585 for Primary 2.

If parents are looking for more of a typical daycare as opposed to learning intensive environments, there are several options in the area.
One is Meadowlane Nursery School, located at 8320 Elizabeth Drive, just north of SCC on 84th street. This program is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Meadowlane breaks the programs up into groups that meet several times a week in the mornings or afternoons. This suits students who only need daycare while in class. The three-year-old class meets Tuesday and Thursday morning and is $100/month. Four and five-year-olds meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Sessions are available in the mornings and afternoons and cost $150/month. There is also a program for 4 and 5 year-olds held Monday through Friday in the afternoons for $225/month.
For more information or to register, call (402)486-1414 or visit www.meadowlanens. org.
The fourth daycare is the Adventure Academy Child Development Center, 265 S. 84th Street, located just south of SCC on 84th street. Adventure Academy is a family ran daycare.
This program has infant, toddler and preschool programs. The infant daycare program encourages the infants to discover the world around them.
A variety of music is played in the day care, and a variety of colors, textures and shapes are spread throughout the room.
The infant program is for children 6 weeks-18 months and costs $190/week.
The toddler program focuses on self-discovery. Many of the activities in the program are aimed at improving sensory-motor skills, creative thinking and self-expression.
The toddler program is for children 18 months-3 years and is $180/week.
The preschool program focuses on teaching children how to “understand” concepts and ideas rather than gaining a simple knowledge of something. This is achieved through books in the library, the computer resource center and arts and crafts programs.
There are two preschool programs. One program is for children 3 years old and over for $170/week. The other program is for children 4 years old and over for $180/ week.
