SCC softball signs Amber Scherer

Southeast Community College softball coach Bob Ginsburg has announced the recent signing of Amber Scherer of High Plains Community School in Polk to play for SCC beginning this fall.

Scherer is the daughter of Jim and Therese Scherer. Amber attends High Plains Community School in Polk. She has played for the Synergy 18-and-under softball team out of Grand Island, but this summer will play for Chief Industries of Grand Island.

Last fall Scherer pitched 173 innings and figured in the decision of every Slammers contest as the team went 18-11. She had 18 stolen bases, tying her for first in the York News-Times area, and she ended the season with a .367 batting average with 14 runs batted in, 26 runs scored, four doubles, and three triples. She also recorded 102 strikeouts on the mound.

Scherer, a York News-Times All-Area co-captain, is expected to pitch and play shortstop for SCC. She was named to the Omaha World-Herald’s Honorable Mention All-Class C team in 2013.
