Open House set from 11-4 on Nov. 2

It’s that time of year again. Time to showcase programs, student services, noncredit offerings, entrepreneurship and everything in between.

It’s time for Southeast Community College’s Open House.

This year’s event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at each of the three campus locations in Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford, plus three new sites in Lincoln: Education Square downtown, the Jack J. Huck Continuing Education Center and the Entrepreneurship Center.

At each campus location, prospective students, parents and guardians and the general public will be able to visit with SCC faculty and current students, learn about student services, clubs and organizations, as well as intercollegiate athletics (Beatrice) and housing (Beatrice and Milford). They also will have the opportunity to apply for admission, scholarships and put their name in a drawing for door prizes.

“This is an excellent time for prospective students and their parents to see all that SCC has to offer,” said Stu Osterthun, SCC’s administrative director of public information and marketing. “Sometimes it’s not convenient for high school students to leave school and come to an SCC campus for a visit. That’s one reason Open House is so popular.”

New this year to SCC’s Open House is the fact that three additional locations will be open. Education Square at 1111 O St. in downtown Lincoln will be open, featuring four Programs of Study: Academic Transfer, Criminal Justice, Graphic Design/Media Arts, and Pharmacy Technician.

“A lot of remodeling has taken place during the last 18 months,” Osterthun said, “so there will be quite a bit for prospects to see at ESQ.”

The Jack J. Huck Continuing Education Center at 301 S. 68th St. Place also will be open. The Continuing Education Division will be conducting a treasure hunt for visitors, who also will be able to get a glimpse of four upcoming classes. The SCC Entrepreneurship Center, located next door at 285 S. 68th St. Place, will have staff on duty that will provide information about entrepreneurship education and the successful Business Incubator.

Refreshments will be served at all locations.

“We realize that people have a lot of choices when it comes to going to college,” Osterthun said. “All we ask is for people to take a look at SCC. Last year’s group of more than 1,600 graduates found work or continued their education at a rate of 94 percent. That’s impressive. Couple that with our relatively low tuition and fee rate and you’ve got a tremendous value in SCC.”

No reservation is required.

The Beatrice Campus is located at 4771 W. Scott Road.
