The SCC Storm capped off an undefeated week with a 86-71 win over the visiting Central Community College Raiders on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Sophomore Noah Scott sparked an early Storm surge, helping the team to a 33-13 first half lead. Scott poured in the game’s first eight points.

“The last month of the season he has played really well” Head Coach Joel Wooton said. “(Scott’s) confidence has grown as we moved him to the wing from the point. He can attack and to the rim and he gets fouled a lot.”

The coach added that this year’s depth allowed Scott to move off the point. “We can still play him at the point if we need to, but this year we have so many options. We can be difficult to defend, “ Wooton said.

The Raiders made a late run after SCC led by as many as 20 points in the second half, cutting the score to 73-65 with a little over two minutes remaining. The Storm got a steal and a fast-break bucket before Wooton called a timeout.

“We talked about what we did to get the lead in the first place,” Wooton explained. “We had to chase them off the three-point line, spread the ball around on offense, and run the clock.”

Southeast responded and controlled the game from that point on, hitting free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Snyder Cenecharles led the team with 17 points in the win, followed by Brandon Spencer and Taylor Britt with 16 points each. OJ Thok paced Central with 21 points.

The Storm started off the week with a 76-69 upset win over Division I foe Northeast Community College on Monday, Feb.15. SCC got the win without Sophomores Daniel William and Snyder Cenecharles, who sat out with injuries.

“That was huge for our other kids,” Wooton said. “Because they found out they can win without Snyder.”

The coach says his team actually plays faster when Cenecharles is not in the game.

“When Snyder is in there we have a tendency to stand around and wait for him to do something, “ Wooton clarified.

Cencharles is Southeast’s leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points a game.

Southeast turned around and took care of business the following day in a 107-88 win over Doane JV. Freshman Taylor Britt led the team with 26 points, going 12-13 from the field.

The Storm took on Central again Sunday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. at the Truman Center, winning 93-67, and advancing to the District Tournament to play Dakota Community College on Sunday, March 6.
