The 17th ranked Lady Storm split the Holiday Classic held Friday, Dec .5, and Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Truman Center.

On Friday, SCC avenged an early season loss with a 68-52 win over the Concordia Junior Varsity team. Head Coach Vicki Wooton said her team started off slow going into halftime trailing 29-27.

The coach said Southeast “stepped it up” in the second half, outscoring Concordia 41-23. They were opportunistic as well, scoring 26 points off 23 turnovers. Veshae Wilkinson (Hamilton, New Zealand) powered the Lady Storm with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Southeast fell to 9th ranked Highland Community College 66-59 on Saturday, as the Lady Storm could not withstand a barrage of three pointers by the Lady Scotties.

SCC battled back from a 17-point deficit at halftime, but Wooton said her team could not “get over the hump.”

Highland got hot from the three point line in the first half, hitting a blistering 72 percent on 8-11 shooting. The Lady Scotties cooled down in the second half (28 percent), allowing SCC to outscore them 39-29.

Chelsea Savage (Hamilton, New Zealand) led the Lady Storm with 19 points, including five three pointers.

Wooton said McKayla McDaniel (Franklyn, La.) played “great defense” as she garnered four steals to go along with nine points.

The loss dropped Southeast’s record to 7-5 on the season.
